Investment Conversions & Consulting Book Initial Consultation

Prologue · how this started

Three decades of other people's deadlines

ICC was established in 1993 to give institutional investors consultants who understood both the business and the technology of investment systems. Thirty-odd years on, that combination is still rare — which is more or less the whole story.

Chapter one · where this starts

How ICC got here

Back in 1993, Doug Sheehan recognized that there were numerous insurance companies struggling to implement modern (at the time) investment accounting systems. A few vendors were having great success convincing firms to buy their applications, but the clients didn't have the knowledge or skills to convert to the new systems.

Doug and a team of people he'd worked with over the years came together to form Investment Conversions & Consulting, Inc. to fill this gap in the marketplace.

Over time we developed some tools to streamline the implementation and conversion projects, and have expanded our skills into data management and all sorts of investment software solutions for the front, middle and back office, for all sorts of institutional investors.

Since then we have guided the conversion of numerous institutional portfolios for client organizations throughout the United States and Canada, including some of the largest institutional managers in the world, across insurance, banking, asset management, mutual funds, pension funds and government agencies. Our consultants have hundreds of man-years of experience between them.

The platforms have turned over several times, the regulators have arrived, and mergers have doubled and halved our clients' operations. The gap Doug saw in 1993 has not closed. Somebody still has to establish what is true, move it without losing it, and prove it on a date that will not move.

Thirty-plus years is the point, not the footnote. It is why we have already watched your platform behave in year seven, why we know which three things will go wrong before your project starts, and why we are still here to be asked.

Chapter two · the terms

Small firm, senior bench, one accountable owner

We are hired by you, never by the vendor

Our fees come from the institution, which means our advice is free to be inconvenient for everyone else in the room. Where we hold an accreditation — as we do with Curium Data Systems — it exists so we can implement the platform properly, not so we can sell it to you.

We staff engagements with practitioners

Investment accounting, operations, data and technology in one view, held by people who have personally closed periods and personally chased breaks at midnight. Specialist placements into client teams work the same way: we place people we would happily put on our own engagements.

We hand your team the pen

Knowledge transfer is the last chapter, not an afterthought. Documentation your people can actually operate, controls with names against them, and reconciliations that keep working long after the invoice is paid.

Tell us
your story.

The merger, the migration, the numbers that won't agree, the date that won't move. Start at any chapter — we'll tell you candidly how it ends. Senior practitioners are standing by, which is the modern version of what our founders used to promise.
